Should a JRB only be used once? If the kid gets in trouble again should he/she go straight to Juvenile Court?There are some situations where it might be appropriate to handle a kid’s second case at the JRB. If the first case occurred several years ago, if the previous case was a FWSN case and the current one is a delinquency case, or vice versa, or if the previous case or the current case is a parent referral, it might be appropriate for the JRB to accept the case.
One thing to consider is the JRB’s credibility with the kid. Did you tell the kid that the JRB was a “one shot deal?” If so, you need to explain to him/her why the JRB is willing to take the current case in a way that will preserve the credibility of the JRB.
