Should Juvenile Court probation officers use the JRB for as part of the non-judicial handling of a case to maximize community resources? That is a decision that must be made by the JRB on a case by case basis. If the JRB can provide a needed service in the community, it may be reasonable to do so. Keep in mind that there may also be times when the JRB will want to access CSSD or DCF programs to meet the needs of the families served by the JRB. Many JRBs are beginning to discover and access various state voluntary services that are available in their communities. So if the JRB is able to offer and provide community based services and supervision as part of the non-judicial handling of a court case, that may help build a relationship with the court that will benefit all involved.
