In your opinion, what steps can be taken to enhance the collaboration between local Juvenile Review Boards and the state juvenile justice system?A probation officer and a prosecutor should be invited to serve on the board. These individuals can provide valuable information to the JRB regarding how cases would be handled if they went to court and what services might be available in the community. They may also provide technical legal information about the charges and evidence and may provide for some consistency and credibility if the case ends up in court.
A DCF representative should be invited to serve as well because they can provide important information about services and programs that may be available through DCF.
As part of any awareness efforts, the JRB should put together a brochure explaining the JRB program and make a presentation to the juvenile court staff so they are aware of the existence of the JRB as well as the types of cases it will handle. The court should then be invited to refer to the JRB any case it receives that might be appropriate for handling by the JRB.
