Can we put a policy in place to refer juveniles that we arrest, that don’t live in our town, to their town’s JRB?A Memorandum of Agreement can be executed between your police chief and YSB and the police chief and YSB of other towns that would establish a procedure for the referral of juveniles from one town, who are arrested by the police in another town, with whom there is such an agreement, to be referred to the police of their home town for referral to their home town JRB. If you don't already have something, you may want to put together a brochure about your JRB with such information as what it does, how it works, the benefits of using the JRB versus going to court, who can be referred to the JRB and what types of outcomes can be expected from the JRB handling a case. Such an informational brochure would be useful to explain the program to families and also to your funding sources. It could also be used when explaining the program to the adjoining towns to get their support.
